Greening Survey Continues, But We Need Your Help
Public housing authorities can increase their funding not only by tapping into available government greening and energy efficiency grants, but also by building visibility for PHAs participating in innovative greening and energy conservation measures. An increase in visibility would lead to greater funding from the Administration and greater interest from private investors. It would also establish housing authorities as innovators and offer them a privileged role in shaping energy policy in public housing. However, there is one significant roadblock: There is little data on greening and energy conservation efforts in public housing. HAI’s Legislative Affairs Department, working in collaboration with PHADA, CLPHA, and NAHRO, is working to address this information gap.
By now, most public housing authorities have received the “Energy and Greening in Public Housing Survey” sent by CLPHA, PHADA, and NAHRO. The goal of this survey is to gather information on public housing authorities’ current level and history of energy use, their current energy conservation measures and greening practices, and any energy conservation measures and greening practices that they would like to implement. With this information, Legislative Affairs and the three industry groups will produce a “State of Energy Conservation and Greening Practices” report that will provide essential evidence for further funding and a more prominent role in energy policy development for housing authorities. We urge you to complete this survey even if your housing authority has not engaged in any energy conservation measures or greening practices. The survey can be accessed at http://lawebsite.housingcenter.com/.
