What’s New?

HTVNonline programming calendarIn July, the Housing TeleVideo Network (HTVN) will have a new online catalog of available programs, series, seminars, and certifications. Unlike the previous monthly online calendar, HTVN’s new catalog will be produced several times a year and will provide a wide array of programming. All programs will be available indefinitely, except for selected certifications and programs that become outdated.

The catalog will be emailed and mailed to all HTVN subscribers. It will also be posted on HAI Group’s Web site www.housingcenter.com and HTVN's Learning Center. New programs will be announced in subsequent issues and listed on the learning center. The new catalog shows over 150 programs which are grouped together by discipline or curriculum to help students structure their professional development.

What’s next?

In July, HTVN will offer a four-part series on eliminating bed bugs. This series was requested by numerous PHAs. The programs focus on the history of bed bugs, little known facts, how to stop them, and ways to manage the risks. The classes were developed by seasoned entomologist Susan McKnight, who has done extensive behavioral research on arthropods.

In August, there will be a 10-part safety seminar featuring topics such as accident investigation; playground safety; slips, trips, and falls; what to do after a fire; and other risk-related content.

In October, HTVN will feature a HVAC seminar, plus a certification on Tax Credit Compliance. The Asset Management for Public Housing certification (AMC), which started this May, is available until the end of the year. This 16-part seminar, originally developed by Quadel Consulting, was offered in 2007 and has been updated in 2008 based on HUD revisions. Staff members involved with their agency’s conversion to asset management will gain valuable information by attending this certification.

Finally, a certification for management called Building Performance Excellence that started in April is available until November. It focuses on handling tough leadership challenges, motivating staff, creating teams, developing low performers, retaining star employees, overcoming conflict, and inspiring excellence while increasing your agency’s productivity and strategic goals.
