CLPHA, PHADA, HAI and NAHRO Join Hands
HAI is pleased to share with its membership that the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) has joined hands with the coalition of HAI, PHADA (the Public Housing Authorities Directors' Association), and CLPHA (the Council of Large Housing Authorities). This coalition is attempting to bring an increasingly unified and coordinated industry approach to the effort to improve the funding situation for public housing.
The Coalition has been central in convening a National Public Housing Summit that will take place in Virginia in early June. The purpose of the Summit, described in some detail in the last issue of InSite, is to create a vision of the future for public housing that the key industry stakeholders can unite around and work to achieve.
Some of the other key stakeholders that are expected to take part in the Summit are:
- The National Low Income Housing Coalition;
- The Center on Budget Policy Priorities;
- The National Housing Conference;
- National Housing Trust; and
- Individuals who have held positions of leadership in the industry.
Having NAHRO's voice joined with PHADA, CLPHA and HAI ensures a more comprehensive consideration of the issues to come before the Summit, such as: public housing preservation and a stable, adequate funding stream that includes a funding contract that is more enforceable than what presently exists.
The Coalition will work over the next several months to establish a capacity for conducting joint research in support of industry issues. The resulting, analyzed data will be accessible to PHAs via the Internet.
HAI is pleased that it can participate in and help sponsor these efforts aimed at strengthening the voice of public housing and placing this industry's concerns higher on the national agenda. HAI is hopeful that this work, being undertaken by key industry stakeholders, will bear fruit when the new administration takes office next year. |
