As you may know, Housing Insurance Services was awarded the distinction of Flood Agency of the Year in 2003 and received the Best Marketing Award for Public Awareness Materials in 2005. Staff members took the opportunity to speak with David Maurstad, Regional VIII Director of FEMA at the National Flood Conference in Philadelphia in 2005. We educated him on prospective benefits to consumers if building coverage under the other residential category of the Preferred Rating Program were available. We continued to bring this message to the attention of FEMA and our “Write Your Own” carrier. Our continued efforts have since paid off. Beginning May 1, 2008, Congress has authorized FEMA to adopt this program enhancement. The result is additional discounted pricing programs available to our members.
